Winter in Kittitas Valley

Winter in Kittitas Valley - Oil on Linen Panel - 5x7

A few weeks ago while dropping off paintings for the Clymer Museum's "Northwest Experience" show (where, have I mentioned, I won Best of Show!) I stopped at the viewpoint off Highway 82 overlooking Ellensburg, Washington. The turnout has the most stunning view over the whole Kittitas Valley, and the winter air lent a beautiful atmosphere!

I painted this little one on location back when we still had snow on the ground, now the past few days we've had highs in the 50s and 60s!

Old Oregon Trail I

Old Oregon Trail I - 6x8 - Oil on Canvas Panel
This scene is from a farm area somewhere between Baker City and Ontario, Oregon. My husband and I drove by last winter and there was just something about the red willows against the fog that made the drive beautiful. Some people consider grey days dreary, but I prefer to think of them as serene. Unless it's really cold, then I'll start thinking about running away to Arizona!

Snow and Sage, Utah

Snow and Sage,  Utah - 6x6 - Oil on Panel

Sold

I'm very excited to finally start working from the amazing photographs I took while driving through Arizona and Utah. Not that my photography skills are anything to brag about, but driving through that scenery, it's hard NOT to take a good picture!

We were rolling north along Highway 15, the sun was creeping down and casting the most beautiful light on what I believe, in checking maps after the fact, was the Pahvant Range. We had a great view of them, I only wish the sunlight had lasted long enough to get a view of the Wasatch. Maybe next time?

Crab Creek Winter

Crab Creek Winter - 6x6 - Oil on Panel

Sold

Where have I been? Well, this photo should clear things up:

Under the guise of helping family move, my husband and I went on a whirlwind roadtrip through the southwest! It was absolutely amazing, and it definitely cleared up why so much great plein air art is made down there. There is something magical about it.

Golden Winter

Golden Winter - 6x6 - Oil on Panel

Sold

One of the things about winter landscapes, particularly in the wetlands found along the many river deltas around the Tri-Cities, that I love is the way the muted grey tones pop out the golden reeds and grasses. There is just something really peaceful and pleasant about the whole feel of the landscape that even I, an avowed disliker of the cold, can appreciate!
